8:15 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.          Opening ceremonies
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.          1st Round Team Launches (100 teams)
8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.          Exhibit/University Display Area Open
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.          2nd Round Team Launches (Top 18 teams)
4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.          NAR High-Powered Rocket Demonstration
5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.          Team Award Ceremony

General Information
  • The event is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.
  • Gates open at 8:00 a.m.
  • The 1st round of student rocket launches begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues every hour until 1:30 p.m. The top 18 teams will launch again at 3:00 p.m. to determine the winners.
  • Food Vendors will be available throughout the day.
  • A special luncheon, ice cream social, and BBQ dinner will be provided for participants and guests only and will not be open to the public.
  • Beginning at 4:00 p.m. there will be a demonstration of large, high-powered rockets by the National Association of Rocketry.
  • Team award ceremony will occur from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
  • Throughout the day there will be interactive displays and simulators from NASA and the Department of Defense, as well as booths featuring representatives from several universities and other educational organizations.
Directions & Parking

The launch site is located at Great Meadow Outdoor Events Center in The Plains, VA, approximately 40 miles west of Washington, D.C. From D.C., take I-66 West to Exit 31. Turn left off the exit ramp onto Highway 245, and follow the signs about 2 miles to Great Meadow, which will be on your left.
